The music of the 1950's much resembled the social trends of the time. Sock-hops, bobby socks, and poodle skirts reigned supreme, and the music of this decade was as fun and wholesome as those who enjoyed it. The oldies music of the 1950's-thought of as rock 'n' roll at the time- was actually a combination of doo-wop, rockabilly, and even a little R&B, styles which were all made popular at the early part of the decade. Artists such as Chuck Berry, Elvis, Jackie Wilson, Little Richard, and the Drifters epitomized the music of this era, making music that fans could sing and dance to. Today, fans of oldies music say it reminds them of simpler times, which is why songs of this genre are often dubbed oldies but goodies.
